About Reforest

Reforest Bush Nursery is a dedicated hub for cultivating Australian native and indigenous plants, perched on the windswept cliffs of Cape Schanck. As the southernmost nursery on the Mornington Peninsula, Reforest is deeply rooted in the local landscape, producing resilient plants that restore and preserve the region’s unique habitats.

Led by Sam Humphreys, the nursery draws on his decade of hands-on experience in ecological restoration, from cultivating mangroves in the Wet Tropics to rehabilitating degraded sand dunes on overgrazed pastures. Guided by a deep connection to the land, Sam works with a vision of fostering a sustainable and thriving environment.

Through careful propagation of plants from wild seeds and cuttings sourced across Barragunda and the Peninsula’s remaining habitats, Reforest produces hardy, resilient species adapted to thrive in the region’s demanding conditions. These plants play a vital role in projects such as Barragunda Estate’s 20+ acres of habitat restoration and the transformation of Barragunda Dining’s grounds,  where work is underway to revive the Peninsula’s lost coastal banksia grasslands.

Sam’s connection to this land extends beyond the nursery. Through his artistic practice, @samuelahumphreys, he plants trees for every artwork sold and follows a zero deforestation policy, blending creativity with conservation to deepen his commitment to the environment.

Reforest also shares its knowledge and resources through the Local Seeds network, offering native seed stock to empower others to take part in ecological restoration.

Blending artistry with the sacred labor of restoration, Reforest Bush Nursery is more than a nursery—it is a promise to the land, a reckoning with what has been lost, and a call to those who believe the wild is worth fighting for. Through every seed sown, every tree planted, and every act of care, Sam and Reforest breathe life back into the local landscape and community, honoring the Earth’s capacity to heal and endure.
